Nadi Gruha, Bangalore

In one of the oldest areas of Bangalore, Chamarajpet, between a book shop and a scooter repair shop, there is the “Oracle of Saint Shuka.” It is there that every person who visits has their own leaf on which their whole life is written. From these leaves people can learn about their previous incarnations, this life’s past and, most importantly, what is awaiting. The library does not contain biographies of all the people from around the world, only those who appear for a reading.

Sri Ganjur Narayana Shastry, traced a Shuka Naadi Grantha (a volume of palm leaf manuscripts by Sage Shuka) on Sathya Sai Baba. The Naadi consists of hundreds of palm leaf manuscripts in Sanskrit, thought to have been written over 5,000 yrs ago. It describes accurately and at great length, Baba’s family tree and many other facts. Shastry thinks that the Shuka Naadi is a chaitanya grantha (a book of soul power) written by the ancient seers to form a bridge spanning time and space. After Ganjur Narayana Shastriji’s passing at age 40, his son is now a Shuka Nadi Interpreter at ‘Nadi Gruha,’ Chamarajpet, Bangalore.

Mariusz Piotrowski is a publisher from Bydgoszcz, Poland who visited the Nadi Gruha in 2000, and writes “that it is said that the Library consists of 3,665 volumes, and each volume contains 365 leaf cards. One leaf is 14 centimetres long and 6 centimetres wide. The leaves are written on both sides, in Old Tamil, and the size of the letters does not exceed one and a half millimetres. When I saw them for the first time, I thought that they looked very similar to computer tape used in the past – like perforated parchment. However, the holes here are much smaller.”

The Nadis are sacred palm leaf texts written by Sages of India approximately 5,000 of years ago. They are mostly written in the ancient Tamil language in the form of poetic verses. The Sages recorded these predictions for every individual for the betterment of humanity and to safeguard dharma (righteousness). These Sages predicted the characteristics, family history, spiritual life as well as the careers of innumerable individuals. “Nadi” in Tamil means “in search of.”

This is because the scriptures contain some unique predictions of specific people, who would come seeking them at a particular stage of their lifetime as foretold by the great Saints. The Rishis (Sages) who dictated those Nadis were gifted with such remarkable foresight that they accurately foretold the entire future of mankind. Many scholars in different parts of India have in their safekeeping several Nadi granthas (palm leaf books).

Some of these palm leaf inscriptions available in Tamilnadu (in South India) were standardised, ordered and classified nearly 1000 years ago during the reign of Chola Kingdom. There are a number of Nadis available (that are named after the Rishis or Saints who composed them) such as the Agasthya Nadi, Suka Nadi, Brahma Nadi and Kausika Nadi. There are only a few Nadi readers available who can correctly interpret the inscriptions that are written in the poetic language.

Living Divinty by Shakuntala Balu ~ Chapter 8 THE PROPHECY OF THE SHUKA NAADI

Naadi is the collective name given to palm leaf manuscripts written by ancient sages describing the characteristics, family history as well as the life story of certain significant individuals. The sages (rishis) who wrote these naadis had such remarkable foresight that they accurately foretold the entire future of mankind. Sanskrit scholars in different parts of India have in their safekeeping several naadi granthas (volumes) of ancient palmyrah leaves written by the great rishis Bhrugu, Vasishta, Agastya and other venerable saints.

A well known professor of astrology (jyotisha acharya) of Bangalore. Sri Ganjur Narayana Shastry, recently traced a Shuka Naadi Grantha (a volume of palm leaf manuscripts by Sage Shuka) on Sri Sathya Sai Baba, entitled Saicharitamitra Grantham. It consists of hundreds of palm leaf manuscripts written in Sanskrit and is thought to have been set down over five thousand years ago. It describes. accurately and at great length. Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s family tree and many facts about him. It gives interesting details of all that he will accomplish in the present life and also. the great miracles to come.

Among many other things. the palm leaves of Sage Sukha say: Born in the Akshaya year, in the month of Kartika, on Tuesday Krishna Chaturdasi, in Ardhra star (fourth paada), like anima, etc., this person of divine aspects was previously Shirdivasi (resident in Shirdi). He is a great Nankalpa Siddha (a master of the will) and one of great powers. but

without any attraction to worldly wealth or glory. All rishis declare that he will have the power of ichhamarana prapti (the ability to die at will) and that he is one in the Nirvikalpa Samadhi state, living only for dharma paripalana (the nurturing of righteousness) and Dharma upadesha (the preaching of righteousness). His mission will be of prajopakara (relieving the distressed) and, for this, he will distribute and spread all appropriately (sadviniyogam). He will be born to propagate righteousness (dharma prachara) and the place where he will live will become a holy land (punya Bhoomi).

He will be able to assume different forms and be seen in several places simultaneously and to remove difficulties and obstacles and to avert danger. He will establish an asharama near a place where there are bahuchakra-vahana (vehicles with many wheels) and will also re-establish educational institutions of spiritual strength. He will show his omniscience in many ways to devotees who. if they surrender to him in full faith. will be given an opportunity of shedding their sins and of finding peace and goodness (shanti and punya).

His glory will spread far and wide and many people will come to him. But all shall not receive his grace due to past actions. The Shuka Naadi says that this great person will be a Brahmachari (celibate) and will help others in establishing righteousness (dharma). His attitude towards men and women will show equality (equal concern). He will be as a mother among women. He will be an incarnation of love (Premaswarupa). but only those who are enlightened will be able to experience him as joy (ananda).

He can be experienced, but not expressed: as a dumb mute can eat but not speak. Total equanimity will be his. He sees the world as a blade of grass (thruna). He will not be concerned with public opinion and will do only what is right.

He will be a representative of Shirdi Sai Baba and will be born as a result of the prayers addressed to Shirdi Sai Baba. He will give Samadhi Darshan to Shirdi Sai devotees; and similarly, after he has flown from this body. Sathya Sai devotees will have Samadhi Darshan at Whitefield which will be venerated as sacred soil.

His life will be for the good of mankind (loka kalyanam) in the way described by Krishna in the Bhagavad-Gita “Yada vada hi dharmasya glanir bhavathi Bharata, abhyuttaanam adharmasya tadatmaanam srujamyaham.”

The naadi astrologer says that adharma (unrighteousness) has grown to three-fourths proportion. When it increases by one fourth more that is.

when all is unrighteousness, Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s full powers will come into play and be known in the world. In other words, evil has to rise to its uttermost before his divine quality can be fully realised.

As things stand at present, Sri Sathya Sai Baba displays only one tenth of his real self. After a while, his efforts to save the world will increase tenfold particularly at the time of pralaya kaala (the end of one cycle of the world). He will show that he alone can control the fury of nature. He will also plant a tree in Brindavan. Bangalore and that place will become a siddhi kshetra (a field of energy) and the tree a kalpa vruksha (a wish fulfilling tree).

The Shuka Naadi states that good will accrue to anyone who only sees Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Sainatha’s (Lord Sai’s) birth is for loka upakar (succour of mankind) only and so everything pertaining to him is for the Bood of the world. Though he is fully aware of his own powers. he will reveal them only when he has to and always at the appropriate time.

His grace will make people overcome their problems. surmount difficulties and guide them towards progress. In a short time. his greatness will spread further and there will be universal worship of Sathya Sai. He will show himself in many places simultaneously. though he will actually be in one place, and there will be many divine acts and manifestations.

He will erect a flag staff of righteousness (dharma dhwaja) at a significant time and thereafter righteousness will visibly increase. What he does may appear simple to us, but the effects of his actions will be immense and far-reaching.

He is tolerant and compassionate of nature and treats everyone equally. He does not hurt feelings or express anger when errors of ignorance are Committed. Often, he speaks in jest. but he speaks Truth. When he publicises any aspect of himself or his activities. which is not always. he does so at particular times and it is only and always for the growth of Righteousness: instilling good ideas of life and creating an atmosphere of goodwill.

Sage Shuka refers to this as spreading the gospel of righteousness (dharma) so that people may be enlightened. It is known from time immemorial that God incarnates again and again for the re-establishment of righteousness (dharma): Sri Sathya Sai Baba will prove in the course of time the truth of the saying. dharmo rakshati rakshita (dharma protects the protector).

Sri Sathya Sai Baba will have jnana vidya – knowledge of wisdom. Father than merely mundane knowledge. His early schooling was in Uravakonda, a village that once had a Lingayat Mattham (an ashrama of the sect of lingam worshippers). He was born to devotees of his Shirdi days upon whom he could not. as Shirdi Sai Baba, bestow full grace. Even now, though there is the relationship through birth, he is towards his family as he is towards all.

Sainatha (Lord Sai) will teach people that this world is illusory. His divine powers will be known in all the world. Even though in India. he already blesses people in other parts of the world with his vision and presence. Many worship his photographs. They keep a separate room for him in their homes for they believe that he is always with them and lives with them.

If people recognise the truth of Sri Sathya Sai Baba, salvation will not be long to follow. Trust in God becomes easy and one can rise from worldly existence to true reality. The importance of bodily life will lose value as one realises that the body will soon be dust or ashes. The Sai Path demonstrates that self-inquiry (atma chintana) and adoration of God (Daiva Prarthana) are essential on the way to ultimate liberation.

By listening to Sri Sathya Sai Baba, people will be guided onto the right path; their minds will be cleansed and all doubts will vanish. All inessential mind activity will die for He is Divine in fleshly form, born to elevate mankind.

Sage Shuka also refers to another aspect of Sri Sathya Sai Baba. He says that his Avatara will have healing powers and the power to cure himself by the sprinkling of water. This power is beyond nature’s laws and not found anywhere in the world. Sri Sathya Sai Baba will use his healing powers not only for the people of this world, but also for the beings of other worlds, and on a higher plane of existence (devatas). At times, there will be inexplicable situations when he takes on the illnesses and sufferings of these other-worldly beings to save them from the curses and the ill will of others. In such cases. he will cure himself when the danger has been averted.

He also has the power to lengthen life and there have already been a few cases of people being given a longer lease of life. But there are many whose sins are so great that they still bear their fruits and may not receive even Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s grace. When the Kali Yuga influence grows even more intense, then people will see his true might and will acknowledge that he is the Supreme Power. Then mankind will bow to him as to a great emperor and he will be revered as the greatest living being (Mahapurusha) in the world.

Sainatha (Lord Sai) does everything according to a plan he has; for he is born with a purpose, a mission to fulfil. He is all knowing (Sarvajna).

This is God’s natural state and not a state achieved through education. He does not forget anything. There is nothing that he does not know. And these are qualities that are always his.

He has great purificatory powers. Merely the sight of him, or the slightest of word exchanged with him, can purify one. Everyone needs such purification for. if we are born into this world. it can only be as a result of some faults in a past life. But, by exposure to such a divine personage and by his influence. these are automatically diminished, even Nullified.

The Shuka Naadi emphasises that Sainatha (Lord Sai) is Mahavishnu Awarupa, a form of great Vishnu Himself. Seeing him is the same as looking upon Lord Vishnu. Sage Shuka gives Sri Sathya Sai Baba a lineage other than the one generally known. He says that it was Kabir Das who returned to Earth as Shirdi Sai Baba, who in turn now is Sri Sathya Sai Baba who will also return to the Earth in another form. But, this is nothing new: so far. he has had a hundred and one lives and always for the good of the people of the world. As Shirdi Sai Baba he willed another birth to relieve the distressed of the earth and is now reborn as Sri Sathya Sai Baba. In this life. he is fully divine, he is fully God. This is a life of total sanctity, fully endowed with Brahmajnana.

Those who, without understanding and without even the will to understand. criticise him commit a sin. But, very soon, more and more people will come to accept his divinity, for they will have seen his divine powers. After the spring of 1979, the tide will turn and dharma will slowly reassert itself, atheism will being to decrease. India will come into better days, too. and once again, the influence of the present Mahapursha or Mahashakti will be decisive. Sri Sathya Sai Baba will perform ever greater miracles, more wondrous than any he has performed up to now. One of the Examples of his miracles mentioned in the Shuka Naadi is when he will keep an aeroplane airborne for a long time after it runs out of fuel, through his will alone.

The Shuka Naadi also mentions that Sri Sathya Sai Baba will always retain a youthful look, age notwithstanding. He will teach great truths, even smile at human weaknesses of his listeners. Very soon now the days of his great glory as Mahapurusha, the Incarnation of Lord Vishnu, will be upon us.

The erudite astrologer, Sri Acharya Shastry, says that there are many more details in the ancient manuscript of Sage Shuka, but it not possible to include many more in this book. But. Sri Acharya Shastry plans to write down the Shukla Naadi in book form retaining all the original material. It will, of course, also retain its original name, Sai Charitamrita Grantham.

Sri Acharya Shastry says that he was not a Sai devotee before discovering Sage Shuka’s prophetic manuscript. But having been through it with a toothcomb, he realises that what we have in our midst is God Incarnate. So, he took himself off to see Sri Sathya Sai Baba. With the first glimpse, he knew himself to be in presence of a mahashakti (great power). Sri Acharya Shastry feels that he must make a transcript of Sage Shuka’s Sai Charitamrita Grantham available to the public. He feels certain that learning about Sri Sathya Sai Baba, his birth and his mission can only be of immense benefit to lectors.

I wanted to know from Sri Acharya Shastry if he had become a Sai devotee. He said that he bows to Sri Sathya Sai Baba as a great power, but has not analysed his feelings beyond that. However, he related a lovely Sai experience. He made up his mind to translate Sage Shuka’s prophecy and started doing so. Sri Sathya Sai Baba appeared in his dreams, hand raised in benediction, and confirmed Sathya Sai’s omnipresence. Sri Acharya Shastry thinks that the Shuka Naadi is a chaitanya grantha (a book of soul power) written by ancient seers to form a bridge spanning time and space.
